Charity
Shield
The
Charity Shield is an annual event
and trial match between St George
and South Sydney. Proceeds from
gate takings are donated to charity
- the original tradition seeing
donations being made to hospitals
in the St George and South Sydney
districts.
In all, there have been 23 Charity
Shields with the honours going
to St George 13, Souths 7 and
three draws.
The Charity Shield match is generally
regarded as an indication that
the Rugby League Football season
has begun.
